Eric Bailly

Am a keen follower of the African Cup Of Nations(AFCON) and I don't know how Eric Bailly escaped my radar. From the his description Man United may have got themselves a good defender. Will be he in the mould of Rio Ferdinand or Nemanja Vidic or will he deceive to flatter like Eliakim Mangala at Man City? Those are the questions Jose Mourinho will be answering as he begins his managerial career at Man United.

So far I haven't commented about Mourinho at Man United because am not his fan. True he is a winner but contoversy always follow him. Will he galvanise Manchester United or will he be out to settle personal scores with Pep Guardiola? Only time will tell...
He has hit the ground running by signing Bailly, a defender which is good news for most Manchester United fans. Smalling started strongly last season but as the season entered the crucial period his weakness was exposed. Daley Blind height was his undoing in defence but he has an eye for a pass which may be good if he is played in the midfield.
So far everything seems to be going fine. What about the whispers going round that Ibrahimovic is about to sign?

Here is the bbc report on Bailly signing..Manchester United have completed the signing of Villarreal defender Eric Bailly, subject to a work permit.
The 22-year-old Ivory Coast international joins for about £30m on a four-year deal.
Bailly said: "It is a dream come true to be joining Manchester United. To play football at the highest level is all I have ever wanted to do."
United manager Jose Mourinho said: "Eric has the potential to become one of the best around."

Roy Keane Departure

Gaizka Mendieta in action
Livestream for Watford vs  Manchester united here

Gaizka Mendieta one of the game's best playmakers was the architect of this destruction at the Riverside in 2005.

 (300x250)" >
I had watched Mendieta play for Valencia in the early 2000s, leading them to two champions league finals. In 2000 they lost to Madrid and in 2001 they lost to Bayern Munich in a penalty shootout. When he arrived at the Riverside I thought he was looking for his last payout.
His two goals and ability to read the game destroyed Ferguson game plan.
The Manchester United team was undergoing rebuilding especially the defence was to the bare minimum.
Here were the defenders that day..
Van der Sar, Bardsley (Richardson 31), Ferdinand (Brown 87), O'Shea, Silvestre

A central defensive partnership between Ferdinand and O’shea was laughable. Silvestre was a disaster waiting to happen. Phil Bardsley never even managed to make it at Manchester United same as  Kieran Richardson. To make it worse Richardson was not even a defender. He was a winger.
In midfield the great Roy Keane  was missing due to an injury and is the subject of this blog. He was the engine of the team, he carried the team in high esteem but this game led to his downfall at Manchester United. The midfield consisting  Alan Smith, Darren Fletcher and Scholes was to lightweight and couldn't hold the powerful players of middlesbrough.
Middlesbrough midfield had Mendieta, Rochemback and Pogatetz. The strikers were Yakubu Aiyegbeni, a powerful built Nigerian and another powerful player Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.
With the defense so light and the Midfield non existent Boro picked out Manchester United and Roy Keane days at Manchester United came to an end, abrupt end.
In the built up to the game he had said he didn't know if he will be given a new contract because he was in the last year of his contract.
